As of August 2010, legislative reforms went into effect, which extended loan periods from two weeks to six months, and instituted mandatory repayment plans of six months. This extension has now made it possible for servicemen and women to borrow. The reform also capped fees across the board, creating a uniform lending process statewide. Colorado has strict laws protecting consumers from criminal charges. However, consumers are open to civil lawsuits and can be found liable for any and all attorney and arbitration fees. As of January 2012, no further legislative mandates governing the cash advance industry have been passed.
