Scam Callers Claiming to Represent Payday Loan Providers Victimize Citizens

On August 25th, the Better Business Bureau of Southern Arizona issued a consumer alert to warn consumers in the area of scam callers. According to the alert, the BBB has received numerous complaints from consumers about scam artists trying to pressure victims into repaying made-up debt.

Claiming to work for various payday loan providers, the scam artists may use scare tactics to receive payment such as threatening violence, using abusive language, and telling consumers they will be imprisoned. All these are illegal actions thanks to the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. The alert says that some of the scam phone calls have been linked to recent security breaches in financial institutions.

There have been other versions of this type of scam reported in the area as well. Some callers claim to be working for some form of law enforcement and demand payment on a loan. Never give out your personal information to an unverified caller. One way to ensure you are dealing with a real debt collector is to ask for documentation of the debt, this is another stipulation of the FDCPA. Anyone who refuses to do so is breaking the law.

If you would like to learn more about these types of scams, read the numerous informative articles on the CashAdvance.com Scams section. This is also a good time to say that CashAdvance.com will never call you about any debt, real or otherwise. Anyone claiming to work for CashAdvance.com who demands payment on a defaulted loan is a scam artist.

This type of scam may be currently affecting Arizona, but it is all too common throughout the country. Even if you do not live in the Grand Canyon State, it is important to remain aware and vigilant of potential scams. Some scam artists are even able to tell you your own personal information, such as bank account or social security numbers. They will use this information against you, attempting to pressure you into giving out your credit card, a decision that can have catastrophic consequences for your savings.
