BBB Issues Consumer Alert to Ohio Residents

Upset Man on Phone

Consumers Report Phony Debt Collector Phone Calls Threatening Lawsuits

In response to the latest scam to be attempted by criminals, the Better Business Bureau of Ohio has issued a consumer alert after it received complaints about scam artists posing as debt collectors. This type of consumer alert has become all too common in states across the country. It normally involves a victim who in many cases, never even had a loan to repay in the first place.

The Ohio complaint has been specified as one in which potential victims were called by scammers claiming to represent payday loan lenders. In this case, the caller said that funds had been deposited directly into the victim’s bank account. When asked about the loan though, the fraudster would not reveal the amount of the loan or when it was taken out. To make matters worse, the scam artist was able to reveal the victim’s social security and bank account number.

According to the victim, “When I refused to settle immediately for $390 and give him my credit card number, he told me he was filing a legal action in California and I would have to fly there and face a judge and jury. He said I would be found guilty and would end up paying $12,548.”

While the caller did not claim to be representing CashAdvance.com, similar reports have been filed in which criminals do attempt to use the name of a reputable company to trick victims into paying money. It is important to note here that CashAdvance.com does not and will not make any phone calls in an attempt to collect a debt.

In fact, CashAdvance.com is not an actual loan lender, but a facilitator for consumers who need to find a good lender. For this reason, no one owes money to CashAdvance.com because no one borrows money from the website. Anyone claiming otherwise is a scam artist.

If you feel you have been contacted by a scam artist, you can visit the Scam Report and alert others to the problem. It is also wise to contact your local Better Business Bureau and check the Consumer Resource section of your home state to find the appropriate Consumer Protection agencies to which you should report.

Since 1997, CashAdvance.com has been the most established and trusted name in the cash advance industry, connecting over a million consumers with payday loans from its vast network of reliable lenders.
